My blog of things and thoughts
This weekend coming (just showing off really!)
17 September 2010
This weekend coming starts this afternoon (Friday) when I will be performing at a wedding in Basingstoke. From there I have to get across to the otherside of Basingstoke (luckily!) for another booking. This is performing a corporate event, basically a large office party!
Tomorrow afternoon I am at a birthday party in Surrey, then stopping off at Reading on the way back to perform at another wedding.
Sunday I'm at the Hampshire Court Hotel Wedding Fair all day, coincidentally in Basingstoke. What is it with that place this weekend?!
Monday it's seeing Andy Nyman (co-writer and director of Derren Brown's stuff) at The Magic Circle in London. Tuesday it's off to Southampton to see James Munton at the Associated Wizards of the South.
I'm out Wednesday night too...
So, why do I mention this? It's not just to show off, but regularly other magicians follow my blog, read my twitter and facebook and ask why I am so busy. The the secret is...
... Well, there isn't really a secret. It's just hard work. There really isn't a magic marketing formula to get business. You need to put in hard-work, time and money.
Plus, be good. Both of the Friday bookings have come from people seeing me at other events and remembering who I am. They didn't look for a magician, they saw me at another event and tracked me down personally. If I hadn't have been available I doubt either would have looked elsewhere. It was me or nothing.
Well, how do I get the bookings in the first place. Well, that's a whole other question, and no easy answer there. But...
