Mind Reading and Close Up Magic

I perform what is commonly referred to as mind-reading and close up magic, because that is how the magic is presented; close up. Other common terms for this style is table magic and mix and mingle or strolling magic. These names tend to refer to the setting in which the magic is performed, but the style of the presentation and the types of tricks are similar.

The type of tricks that fall into this style of magic tend to use smaller props, for example playing cards, coins, rope and finger rings (think more of David Blaine than David Copperfield!) Because larger props are not required I can show the magic to smaller groups of people. Not only does this mean that your guests see the magic happen right in front of them, but also gives the opportunity to hold and examine the apparatus. This is something you can't do on TV!

Another advantage of close-up magic is that all the props I need to entertain your guests fit into my pockets. This makes it easy for me to mingle between groups at a drinks reception, or squeeze between tables during a banquet meal. There is a time and a place for illusion shows, and close up magic is perfect for all occasions.

Because close up magic is performed more intimately it allows for greater interaction with your guests, raising it to a higher dimension in comparison to the standard 'sit and watch' styles of entertainment you may consider for your function. A spectator may select a card and sign their name across it, cut some rope or lend their finger-ring, so therefore they are personally involved in the trick. I use many 'helpers', which gets your guests interacting with each other.

I am often told that witnessing magic close up is so much more better, and impressive, than watching it on television, and creates a lasting memory of the event.
